How to use POPit
Simply follow these steps to make the program ready to check your accounts.
Step #1
When the program is started the first time, you need to make some configuration before the program is ready to work. When the program is started the following window appears:

Startup screen

First of all you should configure POPit to work properly. To do this, uncheck the checkbox labeled "Activate program" and then press the button labeled "General" (IMPORTANT: You always have to deactivate the program by unselecting "Activate program" before you can make any changes to the configuration of POPit).
Step #2
The following window appears:

Settings window

Connect over LAN
Select "Connect over LAN" if you don't have a dial-up connection to the internet. In that case you'll need a connection into the internet over a local area network.

Maximize on new mail
If this option is selected, the program window pops up on new mail or if an error occurs during mail-checking (only if you didn't select "Silent errors").

Silent errors
Select "Silent errors" if you don't want to get informed of all errors occuring during mail-checking (for example if a server is not reachable or the provided password for an account is wrong).

Time between checks
Here you can specify the time between two checks for new mail.

Play an alarm on new mail
If you want to have a wav-file played in case of new mail arrival, select this option. Then you can specify a filename directly by entering a filename in the textbox or by selecting a file by pressing the button labeled "...".
After you've specified a WAV-file you might check it by pressing the button labeled "Test".

If you've configured everything right, close the settings window by pressing "OK".
Step #3
Now you're ready to enter your accounts you wish to get checked. To do this, press the button labeled "Accounts" in the main window.

Empty account list

To add a new account, simply press the button labeled "Add account" and enter all the information needed.

Add account

NOTE: If you don't have all the infos needed (POP3-Server, username and password) ask your administrator for it or, in case of a direct connection to the internet, your ISP must be able to help you.

The name for your account may be specified as you like it. After your account has been added, the account list should look something like this:

Account added

Repeat this step for every account you want to have checked by POPit.

If you made any mistake during entering all informations, you may edit an account by first selecting it in the list and then pressing the button labeled "Edit account". Or if you want to delete an account select the one you want to delete and press the button labeled "Delete account".

If you've entered all your accounts press the button labeled "OK".
Step #4
Congratulations - POPit is now configured and ready to work. The main window of POPit should contain now all your accounts previously entered:

Ready to run

Now you should do a test run by pressing the button labeled "Force a mail check" (You can press this button any time you want to force a check for new mail - except if a mail check is already in progress).

Setup finished

If everything worked right, the status indicators in your account list should turn from a red cross to a green tick.

Setup finished everything OK
Setup finished an error occured (a red cross is shown too, if the account was added to the list but not yet checked for new mail)
Step #5
The configuration if POPit is now finished. If you'd like to hide POPit press the button "Hide POPit" to minimize the program to the tray area.

Setup finished

To show POPit if minimized, simply click on the icon and the program window will appear.
